In another not so shocking bit of news, a Las Vegas Lawyer has pleaded guilty to stealing money from his clients personal injury settlements. Lawrence Davidson, who is 45 years old, plead guilty today in court. Here’s a summary of the charges:
• 20 counts of mail fraud and four counts of money laundering;
• One count of making a false statement in a passport application, one count of aggravated identity theft and two counts of willfully failing to appear at court hearings;
• One count of violating his supervised release by failing to notify the probation office of a change of address.
The sentencing is expected to be 8 1/2 years in prison and over 900,000 in restitution.
As you know, we’ve been keeping track of these sort of things for the last few years and are trying to make everyone aware that there are very bad lawyers out there. I continuously hear about lawyers in Las Vegas and Reno taking advantage of their client and it just sickens me. What’s more amazing to me is the length of time that these lawyers get away with these actions before anything of consequence happens to them, if anything actually ever does. So the point that I consistently make is to take a few minutes, do some research online, do your due diligence and give us a call before you hire an attorney. They may have a fancy website with a lot of credentials and what not but they still should be reviewed. Ask them if they are Certified Ethical. Why would any good attorney have an issue with going through a background check? I won’t hire any attorney unless I know for sure they are ethical.
